Lame-O Records‘ annual Rock Residency benefit series at Boot & Saddle returns for its third year next month, and WOW would you look at that lineup. A Lame-O event never disappoints, but this year they’ve put together an exceptionally stacked roster of labelmates and friends to take over Boot & Saddle every Thursday in January. Just Announced: Sorority Noise heads to Union Transfer in June for massive headliner

After the saddening news of Modern Baseball’s canceled spring tour, Sorority Noise knew they still had to get out on the road this year. After a couple hectic weeks, the band announced a full US headlining tour with (and get ready for this) Sinai Vessel, Walter Etc., Mat Kerekes, Forth Wanderers, The Obsessives, and Shannen Moser. Lucky for us, Union Transfer will be blessed on June 14th with the latter three opening for the Connecticut-based rockers.

Watch The Obsessives embark on a virtual adventure in “Surfer Rosa”

The Obsessives give us a taste of their newly announced, self-titled sophomore record with the anthemic power-pop of “Surfer Rosa”.

Stuck in a moral Water Temple of sorts, the duo of Nick Bairatchnyi and Jackson Mansfield navigate their way through a “straight-from-the-cereal-box” video game, learning their path through painstaking trial-and-error. The fantastically vibrant instrumentation puts on a front for the self-deprication, as the band sings of hitting themselves for keeping at the losing battle of life and love. As goofily as the pair may attack these situations of repetition and subsequent feelings of displacement, the underlying carefree attitude represents the real courage these boys have to be themselves and actually have fun with their lives, despite the constant battle with the UFOs in their lives. The weather has finally started to come around, the trees are in full bloom, which can only mean one thing: it’s finally spring in Philadelphia. And what better way is there to celebrate than by attending an outdoor festival?

The second annual Love On The Streets Festival is set to take place on Saturday, May 14 at Paine’s Park. The festival is a celebration of Philly’s street life, and will feature a skateboarding competition, live art, a beer garden, and most importantly, a ton of live music. Continue reading →
