Every year you’re bound to catch a smattering of local music at the Philadelphia Folk Festival – from the Helen Leicht-curated WXPN Philly Local Stage (which we’ll preview tomorrow) to the Folksong Society’s Philadelphia Music Co-Op (which has given rise to Cheers Elephant and Toy Soldiers). The 2014 festival, however, is particularly strong in highlighting the music of the Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania region. Lera Lynn and The Wallace Brothers Band bring Eagleview two sides of Americana

On Tuesday a sublime summer night was the backdrop in Eagleview Town Center in Exton, PA for a double-header free concert of Lera Lynn and The Wallace Brothers Band. Both artists pulled from the roots music / singer-songwriter tradition, but with two distinctive takes on it.

First up was the alt-country Lynn. Touring behind her new release of The Avenues, Lynn and guitarist/producer Joshua Grange stung the night with notes of rock and Americana. Continue reading →


The Wallace Brothers Band opens a four-week residency at Bob and Barbara’s on South St. tonight

Country Music at Bob and Barbara’s kicks off tonight with Wilbur, John Francis, The Wallace Brothers Band and Red Skiles and the Country Ramblers.  The four-week residency at the South Street lounge will showcase local musicians playing original tunes alongside some covers of classic country idols like .  With The Wallace Brothers Band acting as host and houseband, they’ll be joined by Sweetbriar Rose, Ansel Barnum, The Miners and more over the course of the residency.  More information for the no-cover nights can be found on the Facebook event page.  Below, watch The Wallace Brothers Band perform “Duck River” at this year’s Philadelphia Folk Festival.


Tonight’s Concert Picks: The Wallace Brothers Band at Ortlieb’s Lounge, Jackie Paper at The Fire
