Widowspeak bring their dreamy, 90’s inspired, self-described “cowboy grunge” to Boot & Saddle tonight. Touring behind their recent LP Expect The Best, Widowspeak are known for their nostalgic, narrative-driven tunes which will thrive in the intimate Boot & Saddle setting. Chicago indie rockers Clearance and Philly bedroom grunge outfit Sun Hat also perform. Just Announced: The Wood Brothers are playing The Prince Music Theater on 2/21

Folk infused blues and roots trio The Wood Brothers swing through Philadelphia on February 21st  for a performance at The Prince Music Theater. The band, featuring Chris Wood of jazz trio Medeski Martin and Wood and his brother Oliver, is on tour celebrating the October release of their album The Muse. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday, November 8th; get more information here. My Morning Download: “The Muse” by The Wood Brothers

woodbros Bassist Chris Wood, one of the founding members of Medeski, Martin & Wood, and his brother, guitarist Oliver are The Wood Brothers. Along with multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix, the trio recently released a new album, The Muse produced by Buddy Miller. Rooted in blues, country, folk and funk, The Wood Brothers debuted in 2005 with an EP that got them signed to Blue Note Records and since the release of 2011’s Smoke Ring Halo they’ve been recording Southern Ground Artists, the imprint of country/folk singer-songwriter Zac Brown.

The Wood Brothers are releasing a new collection of live music on August 28th called Live, Volume 2: Nail & Tooth. The new collection follows up the release of their current live album called Live, Volume One: Sky High. The Wood Brothers – Oliver on guitar and vocals, and Chris on bass, vocals, and harmonica – debuted in 2006 with its funky and rootsy Blue Note Record release Ways Not To Lose. Brother Chris is also a member of Medeski, Martin & Wood.

Key Studio Sessions Sneak Preview: Carsie Blanton

Next week we’ll release our latest Key Studio Session video spotlighting Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Carsie Blanton. She’s made big strides for someone whose career is still relatively young; last year she toured with Paul Simon, and recorded her latest album – Idiot Heart, released in January – with Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers fame.
