Bands In the Backyard was on hand to capture Light Heat in action at their Race Street Pier appearance last month. The local psychedelic band performed songs off of their debut self-titled record, including lead-off track “Dance the Cosmos Light,” which you can watch a BITBY video of below. Light Heat have a couple of shows scheduled in the area: Haverford College students will be able to catch them with Coke Weed and The Walkmen’s Peter Bauer on September 21st, while the rest of us can go to Ortlieb’s on November 15th for a show with Yellow Birds and Myrrias. Tickets and information can be found here.
With September comes the inevitable end of summer, which, sadly, means the end of free summer concerts. But for its part, Third Thursdays Live and Local (the inaugural run of free shows at the Race Street Pier) has saved one of its biggest events for its final night. On September 19th, the Delaware River Waterfront welcomes local hip hop artist Chill Moody to the pier, alongside Osiris Rex and the Joe Jordan Experiment. The show is free, all-ages, and will have a complementary beer garden courtesy of the Philadelphia Brewing Company. Attendees will also have a chance to win tickets to September 26th’s Kid Cudi / Tyler the Creator concert at Festival Pier. More information for the show can be found here.
