East coast electronic artist Tours dropped his new Okay EP during the mad rush of Black Friday. It was good timing, since listening to the tracks on Okay dissolves all of the craziness and transports you to a faraway place just out of reach. The four-track EP comes a year after Tours’ first release, the glimmering Stay EP that put Tour’s Dylan Sieh on the map of up-and-coming producers. Of the new EP, Sieh wrote:
Stay dealt with the challenges of moving forward despite the difficulties of losing something dear to you. It’s follow-up is the realization that everything is Okay. The release conveys the importance of improving yourself and learning to let things go.
You can stream and download Okay for free below via Young Latitudes‘ Bandcamp and purchase a cassette from Purr Tapes here.
Tonight at Johnny Brenda’s, XPN Welcomes Philly bands Gracie and Tours (along with Snowmine from Brooklyn) for the Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter music series. Snowmine was recently featured on Shaking Through, XPN’s online video and audio collaboration with Weathervane Music. Chillwave act Gracie has an EP coming out next Tuesday on Small Plates Records called Treehouse. Below, you can watch the video for “Southern Place” from Gracie’s EP, and download “Curfews” by Snowmine. Snowmine performs with Gracie and Tours at 9:15 p.m. at Johnny Brenda’s; tickets to the 21+ show are $5.
You might know Philadelphia’s Tours from “Dirty Dreams,” the track they collaborated on to mark the first birthday of Key favorites Work Drugs. The music they make in their own right is also pretty sweet, as we hear in today’s Philly Local Phile, “IJS,” a song from their recent Stay EP. If you dig on these homegrown chillwave vibes, you’ve got two chances to check them out this weekend. Tonight, the band plays as part of the Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter showcase at Johnny Brenda’s and Saturday it plays Maxwell’s on Main in Doylestown.
Welcome to another edition of Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter. Instamatic is a electro-synth-pop dance band that includes TJ Adams, Steven Haslam, Rick Mitchell, Philip Schorn and additional vocals by Rose Luardo of Sweetheart. The band has a couple of dates coming up in February including a show at Milkboy on Saturday, February 4th and a show at The Level Room on Saturday, February 18th. Go here for more information. Below, download Instamatic’s three-song EP, which includes “Replacement For Life” (co-written by Dayve Hawke of Memory Tapes). The three songs on the EP are propulsive dance tracks that capture all the best elements of Donna Summer and The Human League. New wave-disco hasn’t sounded this good, since, well, new wave-disco of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Reminder: Don’t miss our first Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter show at Johnny Brenda’s on Friday, February 3rd with Philly’s Gracie, Tours, and headliners Snowmine. Go here for tickets and more information.
Philly chillwaver (“Philwaver”)/electro-pop musician Gracie released a new song, “Tryck R Treat” today that you can download for free below. The song is from his forthcoming Treehouse EP, being released February 7th on Small Plates Records. You can pre-order the record here. Gracie plays January 18th at Kung Fu Necktie and Friday, February 3rd at The Key/WXPN and Johnny Brenda’s Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter show with Tours and Brooklyn’s Snowmine.
In our semi-regular Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter series, we’ve highlighted a handful of local acts whose music we’ve come across simply by searching through Bandcamp by location. (Previous posts have included artsits such as Ishe + Hezekiah Project, Acid Kicks, Coup Couroux, and Small Professor.) In early February, The Key and Johnny Brenda’s will present the first Philadelphia Bandcamp Hunter concert, featuring Philadelphia’s Gracie and Tours, as well as the Brooklyn-based Snowmine (which was Shaking Through’s featured artist back in November). You can listen to tracks from all three artists below.
Snowmine performs with Grace and Tours at 9:15 p.m. Friday, February 3rd; tickets to the 21+ show are $5.
Electronica artist Dylan Sieh records under the name Tours (formerly known as Tech Coast). He has a new EP called Stay that you can download for a “name your own price” below. The EP is on Bobby Cahn Records, Work Drugs’ record label. It is also available to buy as a cassette here. Speaking of Work Drugs, Tours collaborated with the band on it’s new single “Dirty Dreams” that you can download here. Download/stream the new Tours EP below.
In addition to Tours, Sieh has his hand in the incredible sampling/remix project as Tumblewoof. Last March as Tumblewoof Sieh released a collection of mashups featuring songs by Phoenix and Lil’ Wayne that you can download for free here. Check out a new Tumblewoof remix of the Memory Tapes song “Fell Thru Ice” below.
