Brooklyn experimental duo Buke and Gase play Johnny Brenda’s tonight.  Evolving out of punk / noise band Hominid, Buke and Gase members Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez make angular, dissonant post-rock with with elements of chamber folk.  The outfit followed up 2010′s debut LP Riposte with General Dome, released this past Tuesday.  Tickets and information for tonight’s 21+ show with Norwegian Arms and Ahleuchatistas can be found here.  Below, stream “Hiccup” from General Dome.

Atmospheric rock outfit Edison will be at Ortlieb’s Lounge tonight.  The local five-piece released their Living Room EP in January.  Creating an aura of a more streamlined Air, Edison utilize spacious, gauzy arrangements and drifting vocals for their soundscapes.  Tonight’s 21+ show with Twister Baby and Lo Rise is free; more information can be found here.  Below stream “Carry On” from the latest EP.

Country singer Lindi Ortega heads to the Tin Angel tonight.  Boasting a Juno nomination for her debut Little Red Boots and an appearance on ABC’s “Nashville“, the Toronto native tethers creative songwriting to fiery live performances that carry over into her recordings.  Little Red Boots was followed up by last year’s Cigarettes & Truckstops, which you can stream in full here.  Tickets and information for tonight’s 21+ show with Dustin Bentall & The Smokes can be found here.  Watch Lindi Ortega’s video for “The Day You Die” below.

Following her Free at Noon performance earlier today, Trixie Whitley performs at World Cafe Live tonight.  Whitley has accomplished a lot in her relatively brief 25 years, beginning by touring Europe with theatre and dance companies, moving on to become a DJ for Belgium’s Museum of Modern Art and finally moving to New York City to pursue a music career.  in 2011 Whitley teamed up with producer Daniel Lanois for his Black Dub project while recording her own material; she released her debut LP Fourth Corner earlier this week.  Tickets and information for tonight’s all-ages show with Dumpster Hunter can be found here.  Below, stream and download the title track to Whitley’s new album from her Folkadelphia session (full session here).

Folk musician Sera Cahoone returns to the area for a show at Burlap and Bean tonight.  The reserved singer and multi-instrumentalist released the achingly stellar Deer Creek Canyon last year, her third studio album.  Singing songs of homesickness, relationships and friendships, Cahoone harkens back to her childhood in the Colorado foothills for inspiration.  Tickets and information for the show in Newtown Square can be found here.  Below, watch her perform the title track to the 2012 LP and download the song here.

While XPN2 is helping us celebrate the holiday season with Jingle Jams, the weekly Folkadelphia show has moved over to The Key in the form of downloadable in-studio sessions.  This week’s guest was Black Dub vocalist and solo musician Trixie Whitley, a powerful singer with a captivating delivery.  Listen to the full session below and download it via Folkadelphia’s Bandcamp.

Bobby Long premiered a track off of his upcoming Wishbone LP this week over on Paste.  The British singer-songwriter will release the follow-up to last year’s debut LP A Winter’s Tale in February through ATO Records.  Listen to “In Your Way” below and download it here.

Welcome to the Folkadelphia Sessions, a weekly feature focusing on the in-studio performances recorded by the Folkadelphia crew. Here, folk musicians and singer-songwriters are given the opportunity to share songs that we have recorded in a live, intimate, and often stripped-down fashion at the WXPN studios. There is a real truth and beauty in the rawness of the whole set-up that we hope you’ll hear and enjoy!

You may not have realized it, but when you were rocking out to Black Dub, the Daniel Lanois- collaborative recording project, the vocal piping in, strong and clear, belonged to Trixie Whitley, the subject of today’s Folkadelphia Session. Trixie, in her short time on this planet (b. 1987), has been making her mark on the music and arts community. The daughter of the late singer-songwriter Chris Whitley, Trixie has been carving her own soulful songwriting niche- releasing two EPs and gearing up for a proper debut full-length Fourth Corner, which will see a U.S. release on January 29th.

Trixie was kind enough to stop in for a solo session before she performed at MilkBoy on November 3; you can listen to her performance below, and download it for free at Folkadelphia’s Bandcamp page. For more information on Trixie, be sure to investigate her music further and watch a new video.

American-Belgian singer/songwriter Trixie Whitley will be performing at Milkboy Philly tonight. Whitley’s forthcoming debut album, Fourth Corner, will be released January 29, 2013. The revival of the 215 Festival Music Showcase presents the Bibliodiscotheque Dance Party tonight at Underground Arts featuring Lushlife, Light Heat, Lily & the Parlour Tricks, and the Dave Quicks Trio.
