Obits play Underground Arts with Creepoid tonight.  Built from the ashes of established indie rock outfits Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes and Pitchfork, Obits is the new-ish project of guitarist / vocalist Rick Frogberg that impressed Sub Pop Records so much after just one bootlegged show that the band was signed within the year.  Philly’s twisting psych / rock quartet Creepoid open for the Brooklyn band in a one-off appearance, working behind the 2012 reissue of their Horse Heaven LP.  Tickets and information for the 21+ show with Le Yikes Surf Club can be found here.  Watch Creepoid perform “Find You Out” for Big Ugly Yellow Couch below.

Local soul rockers Aaron & The Spell will perform at the Tin Angel tonight.  We dug into the band’s 2012 debut Sing last August in The Key’s Unlocked feature series, where frontman Aaron Brown discussed how his grandmother’s church in Florida inspired the record and how the interconnectedness of the Philly music scene allowed him to work with local favorites Ross Bellenoit and Ali and Claire Wadsworth.  Tickets and information for tonight’s show with Murchant and Allison Polans can be found here.  Below, watch the video for Sing lead track “By My Side.”

The four-piece punk outfit, which is the new project of ex-Weird Dreams member James Wignall, have yet to release a full-length album, but their two 2012 EPs made waves this summer. The title track from their Coared EP, which you can stream here, has a nostalgic fuzzpop vibe that’ll leave you wanting more beyond the album’s four tracks.
