Growing up in Philly and listening to the radio, chances are you, like myself, were a fan of the comforting voice of “Bubba” John Stevens, who for many years held down a weekday spot on WMMR, then at WMGK. For 45 years, Stevens was a radio friend to many, so it’s with great sadness that we pass along the news that he passed away on Wednesday. #GivingTuesday – Preston and Steve’s Camp Out For Hunger

Our friends at WMMR recently began their week long annual Camp Out For Hunger at XFINITY Live! at the Sports Complex in South Philly during which they are collecting donations for Philabundance’s mission to fight hunger and malnutrition in the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley. During Camp Out for Hunger, WMMR Morning Show hosts Preston Elliot & Steve Morrison literally live in an RV for the week, broadcast live, and accept donations of non-perishable foods. Today’s My Morning Download: Larry Saklad covers Alan Mann’s “Christmas On The Block”

Local musician Alan Mann was a part of the local scene from the mid-Seventies until his death in October 1987. Along with The Hooters, Tommy Conwell, Robert Hazard, Kenn Kweeder and others, Mann was a staple of the scene and in the mid-Eighties released the single “Christmas On The Block” which received a lot of airplay on WMMR. The video for the song (watch below) was also aired on MTV. Larry Saklad was a member of Mann’s Free Arts Band and recently re-recorded the song with Kweeder and Kim De Meo to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the song. Download it below.
