Dawes was on World Cafe today. You can listen to the Michaela Majoun’s interview with Taylor and Griffin Goldmmsith and performance from the band here. During the session they performed “From A Window Seat,” “Most People,” “Just My Luck,” and “Someone Will.” Dawes are on the lineup at this year’s XPoNEntial Music Festival July 26-28th. Escondido is the Nashville, TN based duo of Jessica Maros and Tyler James. James, a solo artist and member of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros met Jessica (a musician and clothing and jewelry designer) through mutual friends. Bonding over their love for 70′s music and Ennio Morricone, they recorded their debut album, The Ghost Of Escondido, at the Casino Studio in Nashville. Recorded in a single day, the album brings together dusty country, rock, the sound of the desert sky and spaghetti westerns. “We wanted it to be like Clint Eastwood playing pop songs at one of the honky-tonks downtown,” says James. “But we’ve been told it sounds like desert sex.” This week, Escondido are World Cafe host David Dye’s World Cafe: Next artist. You can download a segment from the show that includes two songs from Escondido’s debut album.

The band plays Johnny Brendas on Wednesday, May 15th, opening for The Staves.

When downtempo Duluth trio Low played an instore set at Main Street Music this spring, they alluded to a return appearance in June. Today we got the details; they’ll perform at World Cafe Live downstairs on Friday the 21st of June; tickets go on sale this Friday, the 19th, at 10 a.m. via the venue’s website.

In addition, the band recently released a new in-the-studio music video for “Just Make it Stop,” a moving song from their new LP The Invisible Way (watch it below), and it stopped by XPN studios to record a session for World Cafe with David Dye. Revisit Allah-Las’ appearance on World Cafe (playing Union Transfer on 4/7)

Californians Allah-Las appeared on NPR’s World Cafe just a few weeks ago, chatting with host David Dye about their beginnings at famed Los Angeles music emporium Amoeba Records and playing a trio of songs from their 2012 self-titled debut, released through LA label Innovative Leisure. Keeping with the California theme, the laidback, country-tinged album was produced by fellow statesman and World Cafe favorite Nick Waterhouse. Listen back to Allah-Las’ World Cafe session here and watch a live video of “Tell Me (What’s On Your Mind)” from their October 2012 show at Johnny Brenda’s. John Mayer embarking on his first tour in three years; playing SBC, Allentown, AC in August

This just in from Billboard.com: John Mayer announced his first tour in three years in support of his 2012 LP Born and Raised. He heads out this summer and makes three regional appearances; at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on August 23rd; at The Great Allentown Fair on August 27th; and the Borgata in Atlantic City on September 1st. Onsale information for all of these shows will be announced shortly.

One of our favorite local singer-songwriters Birdie Busch is featured this week as part of World Cafe host David Dye’s World Cafe: Next series on the Cafe and NPR Music. Here’s what Kate Bracaglia, contributor to The Key and Underwater Explosions blogger writes:

Philadelphia’s whimsical, verse-weaving siren, has always had a way with storytelling. Her lyrics are quirky, candid and infused with a sense of sentimentality. Busch’s latest release, Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night, is her fourth album showcasing her folk-pop fusion. She recorded it live alongside bandmates Ross Bellenoit, Thomas Bendel, Carl Cheeseman, Todd Erk and W. Craig Hendrix. The record is a tale of celebration and struggle — delving into issues like finding time for your passions, staying focused and true to yourself.
