“Alright, I have a lot of feelings,” said someone in the crowd behind me at Courtney Marie Andrews‘ Marina Stage set as the musician finished her last song. With music rooted in classic Americana with a tinge of rock and roll shining through at times, Andrews isn’t your typical country singer. Hometown hero Dave Hause continues to own a solo career after successful punk rock ventures with bands like The Loved Ones, and he brought his old school rock ‘n’ roll to the Marina Stage tonight.  He played to a relaxed but content crowd, though the longtime Hause fans made themselves known by singing along to songs from both Resolutions (2010) and Devour (2013)

XPNFest Recap: Marah showed off some serious skills on the Marina Stage

Where do you even start with a band like Marah.  The re-invented band’s set had a few XPoNential firsts, to begin with.  First bagpipe on stage (probably), youngest band-member (young fiddle prodigy Gus Tritsch) and the first time I saw a line of fans line up at the back of the stage to autographs.  From the name of their most recent record, Mountain Minstrelsy of Pennsylvania, you might expect a quaint back porch folk group but that is no where near what we got this afternoon on the Marina Stage.

With raindrops beginning to drizzle down, Nashville’s Caitlin Rose brought us a strong dose of imaginative country rock ‘n’ roll on the Marina Stage.  Backed by Los Colognes from her hometown, Rose played songs from her 2014 LP The Stand-In, along with a pair of covers and old favorite.
