Yowler comes to terms with herself on the new single “WTFK”

Maryn Jones is well-known for her work with the pop punk All Dogs and folk rock band Saintseneca, but she also leads her own lo-fi project called Yowler. Yowler’s second album, Black Dog In My Path releases October 12 on Double Double Whammy, and today we got a taste of its lead single “WTFK.”

Where debut album The Offer (2015) was composed of faint, wavering vocals and dark acoustic guitar, “WTFK” tackles a more rugged sound. The opening lyrics are backed by a grinding, robust bass line combined with starry synths that balances a tipping seesaw between gloom and hope, like shards of light piercing through thick clouds. Synth-folk outfit Florist released their soft and beautiful LP If Blue Could Be Happiness last month, and its intricate and gentle songs are the perfect soundtrack for a cozy fall night at Boot & Saddle.
