Left to right: WXPN's Gene Shay with Maxx from Black Landlord

Yesterday Northern Liberties was filled with the sounds of rock, rap and folk music during the 2nd Street Festival with performances from many bands including East Hundred, Toy Soldiers, Cheers Elephant and Black Landlord. Speaking of the Landlord, we came across the picture above from Jump Philly that we had to share. On the left: WXPN’s Gene Shay the folk legend currently celebrating his 50th anniversary of being on the radio. On the right – MAxx – the front man from Black Landlord. We’re not so sure if they were actually performing together during this photo (Shay was the “host” for the day) however we found something wonderfully surreal about it. Don’t miss Black Landlord at the Popped! Music Festival in September, and listen to Gene Shay on the Folk Show on XPN Sundays from 8-11 p.m. For more photos of the 2nd Street Festival check out Jump Philly.
