Abstract Verses are a five piece experimental hip-hop group who come with a hearty side of sweet jazzy funk. Born and bred in Philadelphia’s music scene, they are releasing their debut album, Brane World Scenario, on Thursday, July 7th. Verses’ album is lush and smooth, full of clever guitar licks, complex lyrics and jazzy Tribe Called Quest-like vibes. Hints of vibrophone and Cowboy Bepop samples add a fun twist to the sounds running beneath front man Matt Dancis’ smooth flow.

Abstract Verses will play a record release show with long time Philly hip-hop group Philadelphia Slick (celebrating their new album The Way Things Work) at 9pm on Saturday, July 7th at Triumph Brewing Company in Old City. The show is 21+ and admission is $5. Go here for more information about the show. Below, stream “Crossings” from Abstract Verses’ Brane World Scenario.
