Last time we saw Philly-bred, NY-based rapper Boy Pierce, he was rapping over everything – or, more explicitly, an assortment of samples ranging from U2’s “Mysterious Ways” to Super Mario Brothers’ underworld score and Billy Joel’s “Angry Young Man.”

His most recent video for “RÉSUMÉ (Rhythmic Eclectic Sequence of Unique Melodic Experimentation)” finds the rapper in similar megamix mode, but here we get a behind-the-scenes look at his process. Seated at his home workstation with a keyboard, microphone, a touchscreen laptop and audio software, Pierce builds a track from the ground up and begins flowing overtop, telling the story of his move to New York and dropping great lines like “more heart than the Franklin Institute” and referencing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze as the beat he built shapeshifts in tone and tempo. Watch and listen below.
