New Orleans based indie-folk group Hurray For The Riff Raff returned to World Cafe Live last night, just a few days after last week’s Free At Noon. Singer-songwriter Alynda Lee Segarra, who fronts the band, thanked the crowd who saw them last time and started off their set with sweet folk tunes, her voice lulling the audience as a fiddle and stand-up bass joined the instrumentation. After a handful of songs, fans were singing along and bopping with Segarra’s flouncy movements as she played songs from Hurray For The Riff Raff’s new album, Small Town Heroes. By the end of the evening, Segarra picked up her harmonica and banjo, to finish out a solid set of tunes.

Another New Orleans resident, rocker Benjamin Booker made his Philadelphia debut last night and opened the show. Ready to warm up a mellow crowd with his soulful tunes, Booker began to wail on his guitar and slyly dance in his Dr. Martens. The singer and his band appeared ecstatic to share their music with the slowly growing crowd. Fans moved away from their dinner tables and up to the foot of the stage to listen to his set, which included his just released single from his forthcoming ATO Records debut Violent Shiver.
