Local favorite singer-songwriter Matt Pond – a former Philadelphian based in New York – will headline the seventh annual RiverCity Festival taking place at Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown on Saturday, October 11th.  The free festival, situated along the river off of Delaware Avenue, is stocked with a stellar line-up of local bands, vendors and a 5k run.

Matt Pond was in town in the spring, celebrating the 10th anniversary of his band’s beloved LP Emblems at Underground Arts.  The record surfaced in the middle of a career that went on to include 5 full-lengths and several EPs, and a decade later fans proved that the “honest dose of melancholy” that rings true in Pond’s music is still needed.  Pond showed his gratitude to his fans by releasing a 10-track record called Skeletons and Friends earlier this year via Noisetrade.  The free download, Pond says, is “an album of brightened corners and beautifully incomplete sentences. It’s the structure and skeleton of what’s to come.”

Musical support at the festival will feature recent XPN Fest alums The Lawsuits and Ginger Coyle, along with TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, Pine Barons, Katie Barbato and Levee Drivers.  More information can be found on the festival’s website here.  Check out each artist below and watch Matt Pond perform “Hole in My Heart” at the 2013 XPoNential Music Festival.
