After meeting the owner of a used record store in upstate New York, Lancaster bluegrass folk trio The Stray Birds wrote the title track of their new album, BestMedicine.Singer Maya de Vitry’s soulful voice shares this person’s story in the verses, effortlessly connecting with bandmates Oliver Craven and Charles Muench for the harmonized refrain “Music is the best medicine I sell.” The song was inspired by Kurt Hellijas, who owns The Re-Collector in Schenectady, and the video tells his story, depicting an older man arranging shelves of vinyl as the band sings “the doctor tells me he can feel the Beatles in my bones.” It’s a sweet, touching and emotional music video – and the message sticks with you well after the first watch. Best Medicine is set to release October 21st on Yep Roc Records, and the band headlines World Cafe Live on October 23rd. Tickets and more information can be found on the XPN Concert Calender. Below, watch the music video for “Best Medicine.”
