Sufjan Stevens, My Brightest Diamond, Lily & Madeleine, Helado Negro, Mozart’s Sister, and Half-Handed Cloud are all featured on a new 12 song digital sampler from Asthmatic Kitty records.

Asthmatic Kitty was started in 1999 in Holland, Michigan, by Sufjan Stevens and his stepfather Lowell Brams. They’ve released records by Fol Chen, Denison Witmer, Shannon Stephens, The Welcome Wagon and others. The label’s name refers to Sara, a stray cat with feline asthma adopted by Brams in 1994. She lived to be fifteen, dying in December, 2008.

Most of the bands have new or recent albums out, including My Brightest Diamond’s excellent new This Is My Hand. Indianapolis sisters Lily & Madeleine, have a new release, Fumes, coming out on October 28th. Lily & Madeleine play World Cafe Live on November 7th.
