Hop Along‘s Frances Quinlan looked over the moon happy in just about all the Instagram pictures the band posted last night, and with good reason; she was brought onstage to sing with Weezer in front of a sold-out Trocadero crowd. The band was in town playing the new Everything Will Be Alright In The End in its entirety, and Quinlan traded verses with frontman Rivers Cuomo on the uber-poppy “Go Away” (on the album version, it’s sung by Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast). Video of the performance surfaced today, and in it, Quinlan seems positively amped to be onstage and rocking out, and we even get to hear her trademark howl at the 2:45 mark.

She tells us she was on tour opening for mewithoutYou when she found out about the opportunity. “I was literally hopping up and down at a rest stop outside Baltimore when our booking agent, Merrick, told me the news.”

Quinlan says she was nervous upon arriving at The Troc and watching Weezer soundcheck from backstage, but the band and the crew were total sweethearts, which put her at ease. “Rivers had me rehearse the song backstage with him and Brian [Bell, guitarist],” she says. “We ran through it once and an hour later I sang it onstage with them. It’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me.”

This was the second Saturday in a row that Quinlan was onstage at The Troc; last weekend, Hop Along opened for mewithoutYou’s sold-out Catch for Us the Foxes 10th Anniversary show, when Quinlan told the crowd the band was heading into the studio next month to record the follow up to 2012’s Get Disowned. We’re totally pumped to hear it over here at The Key.

The Weezer setlist from last night is pretty freaking awesome in general, including a whopping three songs from Pinkerton (they usually don’t play from their most beloved album for whatever reason), an acoustic mini-set at the front and a surprising absence of “Undone (The Sweater Song).” Watch “Go Away” followed by Weezer doing an acoustic “Suzanne” below.
