Curley Taylor

WXPN recently launched it’s year long Zydeco Crossroads project, highlighting the traditions and future of zydeco music and the culture surrounding it. Over the course of next year, there will be a series of live concerts and dance parties. The first show is on Saturday, December 6th, when Zydeco Crossroads and Allon Danser presnt Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble to District N9NE (formerly the Starlight Ballroom), complete with dance lessons from Lake Charles, Louisiana’s Harold Guillory.

Taylor and his band will be coming to Philly from the heart of Creole country in Sunset, Louisiana. Born into a musical family, Taylor started out as a drummer at age of 16 by playing drums in his father’s band, Jude Taylor and the Burning Flames, a band deep in Louisiana Blues, Soul and Zydeco. By the age of 25, Curley had played drums with some of Louisiana’s musical legends, including: CC Adcock, Steve Riley, John Hart, “L’il” Bob and the Lollipops, and his uncles, “L’il” Buck Senegal and Wayne “Blue” Burns. He toured with CJ Chenier, son of the “King of Zydeco” Clifton Chenier. While travelling with Chenier, he learned how to play the accordian.

Go here for more information about the show. To join us for a night of accordions, rub boards, guitars, bass and drums, and some good rockin’ Zydeco, RSVP .
