The Flaming Lips have teamed up with Yoko Ono to cover Yoko’s and John Lennon’s classic, “Happy Christmas” (War is Over).  Listen

The recording comes from Amazon’s holiday compilation,  “All is Bright” which assembles 43 different takes on Christmas classics.  They include:  Lucinda Williams (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas), Liz Phair (Ho Ho Ho) and Brandi Carlile (O Holy Night)  Read more.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono- Happy Christmas-War is Over.

An all-star cast of performers helped R&B, soul legend Mavis Staples celebrate her 75th birthday at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre.  The event was titled “I’ll Take You There – Celebrating 75 Years Of Mavis Staples”.  The lineup included Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Regine Chassagne, Grace Potter, Bonnie Raitt, Gregg Allman, Emmylou Harris, and many, many others who have worked with Mavis Staples throughout the years.

The group closed out the night with a cover of the Band’s “The Weight”.  Watch below.

Morrissey walked off a stage in Warsaw, Poland Wednesday night, just 25 minutes and 6 songs into the set after an audience member said something that obviously upset the former Smith’s front-man.  Live Nation blames an audience member for shouting “extremely offensive and chauvinistic remarks” at Morrissey.   The Express, meanwhile, reports the comments were related to cancer, which the 55-year-old singer has undergone treatment for recently.  Live Nation has offered audience members tickets to Morrissey’s upcoming Krakow show for free as a consolation.  Read more here.
