It’s been an extraordinary year for Philly’s Strand Of Oaks. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Tim Showalter, the band released their phenomenal album HEAL to critical acclaim and lifted the band to their most far reaching, and well deserved success to date. From the first song to the last, including stand out tracks like “Goshen ’97,” “Shut In,” and “JM,” Showalter wrote a powerful and introspective rock record.

With the release of HEAL, Showalter and his band played a handful of incredible shows in Philly this year including his May Non-COMMvention performance and the band’s outstanding performance at WXPN’s XPoNential Music Festival. In September they played two sold out shows at Boot and Saddle. They have one more Philly show on the way for an XPN Welcomes show at Union Transfer on Wednesday. December 3rd. Go here for tickets and more information about the show.

We asked Tim to cover one of his favorite songs of 2014, and he chose “My Wrecking Ball” by Ryan Adams from Ryan’s recent self-titled release. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, Showalter delivered a heartfelt, impassioned take on the song. Listen to it below. And tune in to the Philly Local show on Tuesday, December 2nd as Tim sits in with The Key’s John Vettese for an hour as guest DJ.

Listen to other cover songs by Eric Bazilian, Pete Donnelly, Kwesi K, Cookie Rabinowitz and Ali Wadsworth here.
