This week’s Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session features the Wilmington-based multimedia supergroup Teen Men! Formed by Nick Krill and Joe Hobson of The Spinto Band, Teen Meen also features a pair of visual artists, Catherine Maloney and Albert Birns. Though Birns wasn’t able to make it to our session, he was capably filled in for by Strand Of Oaks/Buried Beds keyboardist Eliza Hardy Jones. Teen Men’s music is more than just a soundtrack to their captivating video collages, employing playful synthesizers and jagged electric guitars.

Having shared the stage with many local favorites like Work Drugs, Purples and Needle Points, Teen Men have quickly asserted themselves as unique voices in the scene. Themes of nostalgia and youthful discovery crop up in each track, such as the music-as-contraband anthem “Hiding Records (So Dangerous),” which Krill says was inspired by a conversation between Terry Gross and Questlove. The jaunty, almost calypso-flavored “It’s All Rushing Back” and the melancholy “The Sea, The Sea” show the diverse range that Teen Men are sure to bring to their full length debut (due sometime in 2015).
