Our latest Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session is with a band that has had no problem standing out in the crowded landscape that is modern music. Formed by sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson, Prince Rama have been releasing immersive, expansive albums at a steady clip since 2008. With Taraka on vocals and Nimai on drums (and Sasha Lord joining on keys), Prince Rama’s music is a kaleidoscopic collision of electronic, Indian, gospel and whatever other genres they can think of. Out on tour with Dan Deacon, Prince Rama stopped by our studios to play some songs from their in-progress new album.

Leading off is “XO,” the band’s new single (which was released in conjunction with a Prince Rama-branded energy shot). The song itself needs no artificial help getting pumped; it’s a pulsing raver that showcases Nimai’s nimble percussion work. Taraka bends and shifts her vocals on the swirling “Bahia,” and Lord’s keys wiggle and buzz accordingly. The band’s “Now Age” philosophies, not to mention a heavenly backing chorus are the highlights of “Your Life In The End.” Then it’s back to the dancefloor for the closing “Fantasy.”
