It’s been a breakthrough summer for Toronto’s Alessia Cara. Bolstered by her hit song, “Here,” the 19 year old singer-songwriter is making her Philly debut on Tuesday, August 25th at Underground Arts.

Alessia’s debut EP, Four Pink Walls is out on August 28th. It’s been only a couple short years since she began uploading cover songs to YouTube including a cover of The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather,” and it’s clear as day what some A&R person saw in these raw performances; a soulful, confident singer, with the potential of greatness.

Since April, when “Here” was released, Cara’s been on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and the song continues to climb the Billboard charts. Like Lorde’s “Royals,” it’s about a outsider looking in; in Cara’s case, she’s at a party, the loner in the corner preferring to be elsewhere. She refers to herself as an “anti-social pessimist,” in the lyric, and she told Fader Magazine:

“Here” is a song “for all the antisocial, awkward, and miserable party-goers of the world. This one time I went to a party and while there, I realized how much I hated it, along with every other party I had ever gone to. We wrote about it the next day.”

Below, watch Cara cover Drake’s latest single, “Hotline Bling.” And you might not want to miss Cara’s show next week. It’s got “I saw her when” potential written all over it.
