Listen to Friendship’s new song “Goneis,” see their Folkadelphia show this Sunday
Friendship are a trio of Maine transplants who made Philadelphia home earlier this year. They released their first EP The Further You Kick It the Bigger It Gets last month and have now announced plans for a follow up called You’re Going to Have to Trust Me in October.
“Goneis” is the first song from the new record, settling in the land of alternative folk rockers like Califone and Jason Molina. A quick Google search of the title brings up a number of links in Greek and one link to an academic article that explores the word’s meaning of “parents” as related to Athenian law.
And singer / guitarist Dan Wriggins does seem to reference a relationship between parents and a son in the song, breaking down the fourth wall and having a conversation with the listener while Peter Gill absolutely nails the pedal steel guitar and Mike Cormier gives buoyancy to the track with his stripped-down drumming.
