Time travel is real. WhenMarty McFly famously traveled to the future in Back to the Future II, he arrived on October 21, 2015 (aka tomorrow). You might seem skeptical, but when you realize that McFly predicted the Cubs would finally win the World Series in 2015 and the Cubs are actually still in the playoffs, it’s clear this is no farce. McFly is coming.

To make things even more exciting, Rocky Kaminski, the time-traveling alter-ego of songwriter of Thom McCarthy, will be performing at The Fire on Wednesday night in celebration of his album release. A bit of background on Kaminski:

Rocky Kaminski was born in the 1980s and grew up near the perpetually burning coal mine fire in Centralia, PA. Strapped for cash in his twenties, he signed on to a medical study where they fed him experimental anti-aging drugs, “The Fountain of Youth Pill”. He lives through the start of the 22nd century, when he discovers time travel and comes back to warn humanity of our dark future.  Through grunts and hiccups, Rocky warbles out visions of the toxic sludge, boxes of brains, alien meat, and metropolitan ghost towns.

The album, futuristically titled 2088: The Jumbo-Cricket Landfill Incident, sounds somewhat silly, but the actual music is taken more seriously. Covering themes of environmental degradation, Kaminski paints a dystopian picture of the future with his out-of-breath, growling vocals that sound a bit like Tom Waits.

You can check out Kaminski’s performance with a full backing band at The Fire on Wednesday at 8 PM. Tickets for the 21+ show can be found online at the XPN Concert Calendar. In the meantime, listen to Kaminski’s “No Fish In the Creek” below.
