There may be no band better suited to have an EP named Floaty Feeling, Blue than Philly’s Weekender. Led by songwriter Derek Sheehan, the five-piece gives the kind of distinct blue-sky vibe that has brought bands like Real Estateinto the limelight in recent years. Today, the band released the first single, and title track, off of Floaty Feeling, Blue — which you can check out below.

Sheehan and team once again hit the studio with Philadelphia producer Kyle “Slick” Johnson — who has worked with bands like Cold Fronts, Creepoid and even Modest Mouse. Slick helped Weekender create the airy, buoyant sound that they first began to toy with on their debut EP Spanish Peaks. “Floaty Feeling, Blue” houses a heavily-layered synth bedrock with Sheehan’s delicate vocals and easy, breezy guitar hovering above the surface.

Floaty Feeling, Blue is due out on January 16 via Papercup Music and you can catch them at the TLA on Saturday, November 28 in support of Flightschool.
