It’s been a few years since Nada Surf released their last studio album, 2012’s The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy. The band announced a new album, You Know Who You Are, on March 4th. The first song from the album, “Believe You’re Mine,” is classic Nada Surf; shimmering, jangly, and difficult to walk away from it’s melodic pull.

Formed by Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca, Nada Surf debut in 1995 with The Cars’ Ric Ocasek behind the boards. The band hit it big with the modern rock hit, “Popular”, a half-spoken word, half sung tune that offered sarcastic teenage dating advice.

Creative differences between the band and their then label, Elektra, led the band to breaking their contract when they made their second album. Since then, the band hasn’t looked back, and has built a body of work that includes several excellent records, including 2002’s Let Go, and 2005’s The Weight Is A Gift.

In addition to a new album, the band announced an upcoming tour, including a stop in Philly at World Cafe Live on Thursday, June 2nd. Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow, more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Below, listen to “Believe You’re Mine.”
