Abi Reimold and Jessica Lea Mayfield‘s musical paths cross at several points, one of which is their shared ability to turn bleak, heavy subject matter into darkly glimmering gems of songs. Reimold opened for Mayfield in Lancaster last month and has now posted a cover of the latter’s “Standing in the Sun” on Soundcloud.

Dedicated to those dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder, Reimold’s version of “Standing in the Sun” opens with gently layered vocals and sparse but warm keys. A synth winds its way through an intermittent crunchy guitar, paired together as though briefly showing the shadows cast by the otherwise radiant and ethereal sun.
