Beach Slang announce sophomore album, drop lead single “Punks In A Disco Bar”
The debut LP from Philadelphia’s Beach Slang, The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us, came out just last year, but already the rockers are back with a follow up. Their sophomore album A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings is due out September 23rd via Polyvinyl, and its lead single “Punks In A Disco Bar,” is available now.
The titles dropped in this post so far give the appearance that Beach Slang is a bunch of angst-filled teenagers, but only half of that is correct.
“A lot of the songs [on Loud Bash] are the stories of the kids who got turned on to Beach Slang by the first album,” Beach Slang’s James Alex tells Pitchfork. “They’re autobiographical, too, but kind of at a remove — I’m not that young kid anymore, but I used to be.”
This new track seeps with feelings of youth and their accompanying frustration. Very punk guitar drowns the entire two minutes and 41 seconds, and the vocals don’t hold anything back. It’s just what you’d expect from a song called “Punks In A Disco Bar,” and that’s not a bad thing.
Beach Slang doesn’t have anything lined up in Philly as of now. The closest gig is a July 28th date in Asbury Park or a September 17th stop in Wilmington.
