Before heading across the bridge to Mount Holly, NJ for Hollystock Music & Arts Festival later this month, local rockers Soraia will make a stop a Johnny Brenda’s on Saturday, August 6th. The band channels the raw glamour of 80s arena rock acts like Pat Benatar and Heart on their latest Less Than Zero EP, a highlight of which is the polished and catchy “Electrocutioner.”

Frontwoman ZouZou Mansour is certainly the star of the Soraia show. Her face half-hidden behind long, dark bangs and her voice catapulting from throaty growl to playful swing, on someone else the throwback style would seem forced or corny but Soraia pulls out something close to authenticity from the completeness of their sound. Chugging guitar riffs propel “Electrocutioner” into the cavernous halls of large-capacity stadiums, though seeing this band in a small space like Johnny Brenda’s would really drive the raw rock point home.
