Beach Slang release new music video, play Project Pabst in October
Oh, the liberation of summer — walking around with no discernible destination, the sun shining above melting away all responsibilities. Philadelphia’s Beach Slang aimed to capture this free spirited energy on their latest music video for “Punks In A Disco Bar,” creating a fuzzed, home movie which follows a group of misfits as they take on the town, along with a bout of debauchery.
The band has been vocal about what inspired the material on their latest release A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings, which comes out September 23rd via Polyvinyl. They’re not the young kids they once were, but were still able to pull from the same creative pool by talking to countless fans on the road about their own lives and experiences. Thus, their stories find a new home and meaning on Beach Slang’s highly anticipated sophomore album.
“Punks In A Disco Bar” undoubtably rocks, but it also has a weightlessness to it — everything about the song and the video coming together in a ’70s summer swirl of harmony. Alongside the teens narrative, we also watch as an older gentlemen rides around town in his cherry red convertible, ominously crossing paths with the group in the last 20 seconds of the video. In the haze of cuts between motel hangouts, sporting animal masks and swimming in pools, the old man’s appearance serves as a reminder that the good times are fragile and should be cherished, something you never quite realize in the moment.
Beach Slang will be playing at the Electric Factory on October 8th as part of the Philly edition of Project Pabst, which will also feature the likes of Hop Along, Mac DeMarco, Animal Collective and more.
