Southern rock band Drive-By Truckers released a song earlier this month titled “What It Means.” The second single off their forthcoming LP American Band, the new tune is a politically-charged one that immediately caught the ear of music listeners around the country. Among those listeners are WXPN Music Director Dan Reed and The Philadelphia Inquirer Music Columnist Dan DeLuca, hosts of the Dan and Dan Music Podcast. On last week’s of the show, Reed had DBT frontman Patterson Hood on the phone to discuss the new song’s origins, how people have reacted to it, and the nation’s current political climate.

In the interview, Hood also discusses the band’s new album and the tour they have coming up, which includes a November 9th stop at Union Transfer here in Philly. Kyle Craft, who played our Free At Noon this past Friday, will open the show. As Hood mentions on the podcast, he and Craft both live in Portland and met at a Fourth of July party.

More information regarding the Union Transfer show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Below, you can listen to an isolated clip of the entire interview with Patterson Hood, as well as the lyric video to Drive-By Truckers’ “What It Means.”
