Wrapping up another year chock full of intimate, eye-opening, and always enjoyable recordings, Folkadelphia has shared its Folkadelphia Sessions Volume IV compilation. The 16-song sampler cherrypicks highlights from the wide range of artists that curator Fred Knittel welcomed into the studio between November 2015 and November 2016, from ethereal up-and-comers to well-traveled veterans.

Lancaster favorites The Stray Birds kick things off with “Sabrina,” a track recorded in conjunction with World Cafe following the release of the quartet’s Magic Fire. Later on we hear Margaret Glaspy‘s electric “You and I” and the swinging acoustic picking of “Closer to the Ground” from Glenn Jones. Local outfit Friendship shared their stellar newer track “Sal” with vocal assistance from Abi Reimold, while the recently disbanded Sun Flights say goodbye with “500 Miles.” The inclusion of “City of Black Fridays” from a summer session with Mischief Brew is a posthumous nod to the genius of frontman Erik Petersen, who passed away suddenly and tragically shortly after the session premiered.

If you haven’t caught wind of John C. Reilly‘s moonlighting gig as a contemplative, acoustic guitar slinging musician, give a listen to “Single Girl, Married Girl” featuring his friends Tom Brosseau, Sebastian Shaw, and Becky Stark. And then grab a hairbrush microphone and sing along with Dar Williams and Jill Sobule to “FM Radio.”

Like I said, that’s only a quick smattering of artists that joined the Folkadelphia ranks this year. For all of the sessions, check out the archives here. Stream Volume IV below.
