Ross Bellenoit reimagines Clapton’s “Lay Down Sally” for his Future Corpses project

Track number two is in from Ross Bellenoit‘s year-long covers project that he’s calling Future Corpses. Following on the heels of a “joyful” version of “It’s Gonna Get Better” by Genesis, this spin on Eric Clapton’s 1977 track “Lay Down Sally” turns the bouncing country blues tune on its head. Mellowed out and rearranged, the song is suddenly a sunlight-dappled piece of funky psych transported from a dusty road to a grassy field.

About the idea for the project, Bellenoit says:

“In the spring of 2015, completely for my own personal enjoyment, I began recording twisted takes of some of (my) favorite songs. The idea was to take a song (some of which are fairly deep cuts) and arrange it in a way that was filtered through the eyes of an unrelated popular artist. How would Bill Withers interpret a Chris Whitley song? How would Prince interpret an Eric Clapton song? And so on.”
