A group of musicians will honor the songs of Jason Molina at Underground Arts on Thursday, June 22nd with Songs: Molina – A Memorial Electric Co. The tribute project was originally convened by the late singer-songwriter’s Songs: Ohia and Electric Magnolia Co. bandmates and friends in 2013 following his sudden death; this summer, they’ll gather together again for a run of dates in conjunction with the release of a new Molina biography.

The void that was left following Molina’s death reached from his fans around the world to musicians right here in Philadelphia. Strand of Oaks’ Tim Showalter included a tribute to the Indiana-based songwriter on his 2014 LP HEAL, while Folkadelphia curated a compilation of covers by local artists called Unsung: Songs: OhiaThe latter project included an in-depth look at Molina’s work and those involved in it, highlighting his time in Philadelphia during the recording of Didn’t It Rain in 2002.

For the upcoming tour, Molina’s Songs: Ohia bandmates Mike Brenner, Jason Evans Groth, Michael Kapinus, Mark Rice, and Pete Schreiner will be joined by special guests who collaborated with Molina over his decade+ career. Writer and friend Erin Osmon, who will publish Jason Molina: Riding With The Ghost in May, will share readings and stories alongside the band.

Tickets and information for the 21+ show can be found here; watch Songs: Molina perform “Hold On, Magnolia” in Indianapolis with M.C. Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger below. More details about the tribute can be found in the press release here.
