Balance and Composure put out the Slow Heart 7″ for Record Store Day this year, a dual single containing two new tracks, including the laid-back “Run From Me”.

Never dirtying their guitars too much, the locals take 4+ minutes to create a swaying song relying on vocalist Jon Simmons’ soothing voice to drive home some serious feels. Laying in between Tigers Jaw and Turnover, the band’s euphoric sound tackles emotional songwriting in not an “in your face / to hell with everything” way, but by being cool, calm, and collected, wiping your tears as soon as they come down your cheeks.

While “pop-punk” used to be the borderline yelling mess of power chords, bands like Balance are mixing its redemptive heart-stabbing lyricism with mature instrumentation.  Give the song a listen below.
