Philly five-piece Sheer Mag brings its mix of rock and roll and radical politics to Union Transfer tonight. It’s the band’s first headlining gig since the release of the awesome Need to Feel Your Love LP, which is racking up critical acclaim like nobody’s business. Tonight they’ll be joined by Purling Hiss, Haram and Dark Thoughts; details on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Below, see what you can expect in the revved up “Fan The Flames” video.

Over at Johnny Brendas, a trifecta of Philly rappers hits the stage to benefit Beyond the Bars, a Philly nonprofit that brings music education into the prison system. Headlining is Reef the Lost Cauze, who dropped the knockout Furious Styles project with DJ Bear-One last year. Also in the mix are West Philly favorite The Bul Bey and scene vet Hezekiah, taking a brief night off from his rock project Johnny Popcorn. Tickets and more information can be found here.

Since releasing its debut EP last year, Philly dream poppers Queen of Jeans have logged a lot of miles on tour with folks like Balance and Composure. Tonight, they’re lowkey gigging at Triumph in New Hope, a warmup for Made in America next weekend, Philly Music Fest in a month and a tour with Vita and the Woolf in October. Hopefully a new record is on the way too? Details here.
