Philadelphia’s edition of The Deli Magazine has been around for nine years now, and as they do each fall, they’ve enlisted some of Philly’s finest bands to help celebrate. On Saturday, Oct. 14, our friends at the magazine will fill the walls of local artspace PhilaMOCA with the sounds of The Retinas, Them Jones, and So Totally for The Deli Philly’s 9th Anniversary Bash.

The annual gig has become an event to look forward to every year, and this year it’s all for a good cause. The Deli will donate all proceeds to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry while promoting tolerance and equality. The Deli staff explains the choice to support the organization:

“Whether you realize it or not, our staff (past & present) is made up of many proud immigrants and members of the LGBTQ community, who encourage all of our readers to do what you can to push back against this wave of hate that has risen in our society, emboldened as of late by the dishonorable Troll-in-Chief.”

Local garage rockers The Retinas were part of last year’s celebration, and return this year as headliners. They released their latest EP chaba last June and were recently voted The Deli Philly’s Best Emerging Indie Rock Artist. Psych rock band Them Jones released their debut LP A Mountain of Nonsense last year, and So Totally are favorites of the local DIY scene.
