Curly Castro and Zilla Rocca of Wrecking Crew have teamed up for their side project Grift Company, and released a new single called “Billy Batts,” produced by Zilla Rocca himself.

The title and the cover art, a screen cap from the 90s film Goodfellas, sets the stage for the vibe of the song. It’s a swelling, anthemic, old school hip hop track a la Luke Cage. The verses alternate between smooth yet aggressive, and clean and playful. The hook is catchy, and matches the general badass vibe of the song with lyrics like “You could bust all the slugs in the world… / Wouldn’t be the first hole that I dug in the world” and a loyal shout out to Wrecking Crew.

Castro and Zilla are longtime friends and collaborators; Zilla produced Castro’s solo records, Castro rapped in Zilla’s 5 O’Clock Shadowboxers. As they put it in their Bandcamp blurb:

Curly Castro and Zilla Rocca have talked on the phone everyday since 2010 and have played countless venues across America. When not in WRECKING CREW with Small Professor and PremRock, together they are GRIFT COMPANY.
