Fishtown studio Miner Street Recordings and non-profit Weathervane Music have been collaborating to produce some of the most exciting musical projects in Philadelphia for awhile now — you may recognize them from the Shaking Through documentary series (which just released its latest episode with Jesse Hale Moore this morning). Now, the two organizations have announced their latest endeavor: a compilation album to benefit Philadelphia Public Schools.

Called Equal Loudness, the album will feature music from various Philly-based artists, including Cayetana, American Trappist, Square Peg Round Hole, Hemming and more, who have each donated a song to the compilation with the goal of raising awareness and bringing about change to schools in need.

The first single off the album is out now — it’s a new song from the Bitter Bitter Weeks, the recently-revived project of Miner Street owner and Weathervane founder/director Brian McTear. “Night Frog” is the project’s first new song in nine years, and tonight, April 25, the Bitter Bitter Weeks will play its first show in nine years, opening for Wreckless Eric at Johnny Brenda’s.

On May 17, Miner Street and Weathervane will host release show for Equal Loudness at the Adaire Alexander School in Fishtown, with performances by American Trappist and the school’s music students. Proceeds will benefit Friends of Neighborhood Education.

Listen to “Night Frog” and find the compilation’s track listing below; the full album will be released May 17. Find more information on tonight’s Bitter Bitter Weeks show on the XPN Concert Calendar.
