A holiday on Monday means we’ll just have to gig harder the rest of the week. Starting tonight with Foxing at Union Transfer, and going through the weekend with First Aid Kit at The Fillmore, we bring you seventeen concerts to see all around Philadelphia this week.
Sunday 9/9: Honeychile at Germantown Kitchen Garden
When she’s not playing trumpet in Hardwork Movement, Becca Graham is exploring different vocal and sonic pastures in her solo project Honeychile, which released its debut EP [i] earlier this year. In the eclectic set, she mixes up rapped lyrics, moving orchestrations, and jazzy vocalizing. This Sunday, she plays a concert at the Golden Hour Concert Series at Germantown Kitchen Garden; likeminded beatmaker and soundscaper Little Strike is also on the bill. // 5:30 p.m., $10, AA // INFO – J.V.
Monday 9/10: Grouper at Union Transfer
Speaking of beatmaker / soundscapers, experimental Oregon artist Liz Harris brings her ambient project Grouper and its 2018 record Grid of Points to Union Transfer on Monday. The 22-minute project is a haunting and minimal wash of grand piano, echo-soaked vocals, and lots of sonic space, a moving contrast to her synthesizer-driven back catalog. It’s soft and serene, and lest you wonder how that will play in a big space like UT, this will be a special seated show. // 7:30 p.m., $22, AA // TIX + INFO – J.V.
