Lucy Dacus covers “La Vie En Rose” for holiday-themed EP
After a busy 2018, Lucy Dacus is approaching this year a bit differently. Throughout 2019, Dacus will unveil a series of unconventional holiday-themed songs, both covers and originals, that will culminate with an EP appropriately titled 2019.
The first song, a cover of the 1947 Edith Piaf classic “La Vie En Rose,” comes just in time for Valentine’s Day. Singing in both French and English, Dacus gives the dreamy, romantic song an indie rock twist, trading in languid pace of the original for a more dynamic sound.
Dacus shared in a press release:
“From the first time I heard it, I thought ‘La Vie En Rose’ was a perfect song. Hearing it, I knew that, one day, I would fall in love. I want someone to listen to this while running at top speed to the doorstep of the person they adore, ready to profess their deep, undying love.”
The series of songs will continue until New Year’s Eve, marking occasions throughout the year from Taurus Season to Halloween to Bruce Springsteen’s birthday. Dacus shared that she’s written the songs on the EP over the last few years, often as a way to help cope with the holidays, writing on Facebook: “Holidays are tough and I often write music to try to understand them, or listen to music to buoy myself through.”
The Richmond, VA based songwriter released her acclaimed sophomore album Historian last year, and joined forces with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker for the boygenius project.
