Mavis Staples has announced that her new album We Get By will be released May 10. Produced by Ben Harper, it will be the legendary songwriter’s 12th studio album. The lead single “Change” is out now, setting the tone for an album that will be filled with Staples’ messages of love and hope for a divided world.

“These songs are delivering such a strong message,” Staples said in a press release. “We truly need to make a change if we want this world to be better.” Listen to “Change” below and pre-order We Get Byhere.

Staples, who celebrates her 80th birthday this year, will play three celebratory “Mavis & Friends” shows in New York, Nashville and LA after the album’s release. She also has a long list of tour dates planned this year, and we can catch her when she opens for Brandi Carlile at The Mann Center on September 6.
