Last month at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Amplify Philly convened during SXSW Interactive for three days of networking, cheerleading, panels, and partying from members of Philly’s tech, startup, business, music, and cultural communities. The Amplify Philly “house” took over the Pour Choices Bar and Restaurant in Downtown Austin for three days and nights. During the day, the programming featured panels and discussions, and the evenings were filled with some incredible Philly grown talent.
Amplify Philly is an initiative lead by REC Philly, Witty Gritty, Philly Startup Leaders and a planning group comprised of leaders from a cross section of industries – technology, art, music, media, business and government. This year, several dozen organizations helped sponsor the event, including WXPN, Visit Philly, Tastykake, Guru, Philadelphia Visitors and Convention Bureau, Temple University Alumni Association, Move To Philly, Drexel University, the Science Center, Tony Luke’s, La Colombe, Chariot Solutions, the Penn Center for Innovation, and many others.
During the day, there were various panels with titles like “Moving To Philly to Start Your Startup,” “How Brands Can Use Innovative Media to Make Meaningful Connections,” “Creating an Ecosystem For The Film Industry,” “Who Run The World? Girls: Women Disrupting 2019,” “The Civics of Art and Music,” and others. The nights and happy hours were filled with some excellent music including performances from Max Swan, Worldtown Soundsystem, several bands from the Rowan Music Group (Sweet Pill, Stella Mrowicki, Afloat), a Sunday night house party with the amazing DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Aktive and Joshua Lang, and a Monday evening showcase featuring Strand of Oaks, Killiam Shakespeare, Ali Awan, Foxtrot and the Get Down, Great Time, Rachel and the Vth Element, and Armani Lee. For three days and nights, Philly rocked in more ways than one.
