“Wedding Bell Blues” is a song written by Laura Nyro in 1966 and first recorded on her debut album of the same year, More Than A New Discovery. Three years after Nyro released the song, it was covered by the singing group The 5th Dimension, who had a number one hit with it.

Teaming up with Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong, Morrissey covers “Wedding Bell Blues” on his new collection of cover songs, California Son.

In addition to Armstrong, the album features appearances from Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, LP, Petra Haden, and others on song originally recorded by Dionne Warwick (“Loneliness Remember What Happiness Forgets”), “Lady Willpower” by Gary Puckett, “Don’t Interrupt The Sorrow” by Joni Mitchell, and others.

Below, have a listen to Morrissey’s version “Wedding Bell Blues” as well as the original version by Laura Nyro, and the 5th Dimension’s 1969 hit single version of the song. Morrissey performs with Interpol on September 9th in Camden, NJ at the BB&T Pavillion.
