Hemming‘s 2015 self-titled debut introduced us to one of the most captivating new acts in the Philly scene. Now, four years later, singer-songwriter Candice Martello just shared the project’s next EP, Waiting/Wasting.

With Waiting/Wasting, Hemming picks right back up with four subtly dramatic songs that detail pain and heartbreak with soaring emotion. From the piano-driven title track to the shimmering “Ghost,” the haunting songs betray raw feeling with a glimmering edge as Martello’s voice carries the emotional ups and downs. On opening track “Iron,” she sings “Now I’m afraid to love / cause I’m afraid to hurt,” but throughout the rest of the EP, the songwriter explores the root of that fear — in the end, “turns out I’m more frightened of being alone.”

Listen below via Bandcamp. Hemming plays Ortlieb’s on May 31st; tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
