The West Philly Porchfest took place this past Saturday, June 8th with a full turnout of both musicians and spectators. In case you aren’t familiar, Porchfest is an annual do-it-yourself music festival where musicians of all kinds play free shows on their porches in West Philadelphia. It was created by residents of the neighborhood four years ago to showcase the diverse music and culture within their community. It gives Philadelphians the unique opportunity to listen to live bluegrass, jazz, rap, indie, and everything in between — all within blocks of one another.

Among the Porchfest attendees was local music podcast 25 O’Clock‘s Dan Drago. He spent the day wandering the neighborhood where there was a total of 180 acts. He wanted to give his podcast listeners that missed Porchfest a taste of the festival and, in a change of format from his usual episodes, he played about 30 minutes of music that he recorded live in West Philly.

Drago included field recordings from eight different bands in his Porchfest podcast — I Think Like Midnight, A Day Without Love, LikeBirds, Lady Sarkazm, St. Francis De Sales Choir, Dion Sujatmiko, Emo Spacebird, and The Naked Sun — and encourages listeners to support whichever ones they enjoyed. Listen to the 25 O’Clock podcast here and, if you missed Porchfest, put it on your radar for next summer.
