This week, Purling Hiss announced the upcoming release of a new EP Interstellar Blues and released a grim new track entitled “Useful Information.” The local outfit, led by songwriter/guitarist Mike Polizze, most recently released the LP High Bias in 2016, which mixed pop punk and heavy alt rock with psychedelic production and a twisted sense of humor.

The new track “Useful Information” finds Purling Hiss a more sober, working at a slow and steady pace with overdriven guitar and bass gripping the beat from beginning to end. Polizze’s croon recalls the darker side of ’90s grunge as he worries about “writing on the wall.”

Purling Hiss will play several shows throughout North America in July, including a show at PhilaMoca on Thursday, July 11th with Writhing Squares and Long Hots. The new EP Interstellar Blue comes out on July 9th on Drag City.
